A peculiar ambiguity is thus created – the child is no longer just a child, but a bearer of something hidden that lies behind their outward appearance.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\"\u003eIt is therefore not a conventional portrait. It is rather a portrait of the inner self.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\"\u003eAnd that is precisely why the work can be so unsettling. Not because it depicts violence, but because it disrupts our natural expectation that the human face is the boundary of identity. Here, that boundary does not hold. Beneath one face lies another.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\"\u003eWe can read this as a metaphor for the fact that a person is never just what they show on the outside. This contrast is particularly striking in a child: behind the softness and defenselessness of the child's face appears something unknown, perhaps darker, perhaps more mature, perhaps simply mysterious.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\"\u003eThe modeling itself is also very important. The surface is neither smooth nor realistically \"beautiful\". The material is coarse, deformed, layered, and in places almost crudely worked. This makes the material not just a means of creating the image, but allows it to become part of the message itself.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\"\u003eThe professional profile of Szittay's work also emphasizes her ability to shape and deform sculptural material, creating an expressive psychological effect from fragments of the body and face. \u003cspan class=\"contents\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\"\u003eAnd in this work, it is fascinating that the deformation is not only in the expression of the face – the very idea of identity is deformed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\"\u003eOne face opens.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\"\u003eAnd behind it is another.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\"\u003eThat, in my opinion, is the key to the entire work.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\"\u003eAnd another very interesting interpretation\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\"\u003eIt could also be seen as a visual metaphor for growing up. A child still carries within them many possible versions of the person they will become.
