Some places are created to sell. Others are created to bring people together. Magis Art & Design Studio has belonged to the latter for twenty years.
When I opened my art and design studio in Bratislava in 2006, I never imagined that over the next twenty years we would work with more than 150 Slovak and European artists, designers, and craftspeople. Back then, there were only eighteen of us. Today, we have built a diverse community of creators united by a respect for honest craftsmanship, originality, and artistry.
Over the past twenty years, we have had the privilege of working with many Slovak artists and designers—from established figures in the art scene to talented creators whose work the public discovered through Magis Art & Design Studio. We also value creators who are not professionals but who work with the same passion and love. We believe that the value of a work of art is determined not only by the name of its creator, but above all by the idea, the quality of craftsmanship, and the emotion it evokes.
Magis Art & Design Studio has never been a conventional gallery. We are not a typical shop either. We are a place where art meets everyday life. A place where you can choose a small, handmade ceramic gift for a few euros, or an original painting that will accompany your family for decades.
We started at a time when advertising appeared mainly in newspapers and the internet was still in its infancy. Today, our online shop is an important part of our work, having become a natural extension of our physical studio during the pandemic. Even so, we have never lost our conviction that art should be experienced in person.
That is why you will always find our studio in Bratislava—a place where colors look richer, where the texture of paintings can be not only seen but also felt, and where customers often come in “just to take a look” and leave with a piece that simply found them.
The world has changed over the past twenty years. Trends, technologies, and ways of shopping have changed. Our philosophy, however, has not.
We believe that a home should be furnished not only with furniture, but also with stories. That a gift can have a soul. That craftsmanship and clever design have a value we need today more than ever. And that art does not belong only in galleries—it belongs above all where people live.
Perhaps that is why customers have been returning to us for two decades. Some were looking for a single painting. Others for a wedding or birthday gift. But many return simply because they feel at home with us.
And that is the greatest tribute we could receive.
After twenty years, we know that Magis Art & Design Studio is not made of walls, shelves, or paintings. It is made by people—creators, customers, and everyone who believes that the world is more beautiful when art has a natural place in it.
