What happens when luck decides to enter our world?
Perhaps it arrives quite inconspicuously – in the form of a peculiar gentleman with a top hat, an elegant suit, and a grand gesture. And perhaps he brings with him a wise owl who has long known that the most beautiful stories begin just when we least expect them.
In the painting Mr. Manolo Welcomes Luck, Roman Pocisk creates another one of his poetic, fantastical worlds, in which every detail has its place. The central pair is surrounded by a lush abundance of flowers, leaves, and climbing plants that seem to grow directly from a fairy tale into our world. The large owl appears somewhat mysterious, somewhat amused, and its attentive gaze gives the entire scene a peculiar charm.
And beside it stands Mr. Manolo – a figure with a striking red top hat, elegant clothing, and the gesture of someone who is welcoming someone. Perhaps he is welcoming luck. Perhaps us. And perhaps he is inviting us further, into a world where things are a little more magical than in ours.
This is precisely what makes Pocisk's work exceptional. It is delicate, playful, and incredibly detailed, yet at the same time conceals a story within itself. At first glance, you will be captivated by the colors and the fantastical motif; on second glance, you will begin to discover the details – the expressions of the figures, the texture of the feathers, individual petals and leaves, the ornamental lines, and a multitude of small details that give the painting its own character.
The work is created as a combination of drawing and painting, and its precise execution is beautifully complemented by an elegant gold frame.
It is a painting for someone who does not feel the need to have only a "pretty decoration" on their wall.
It is a little story for which you can imagine your own continuation every day.
